Soil Map

The map covers 78% of the Emilia-Romagna region and describes the soils and their geographical distribution in the plain, in 93% of the lower Apennines (hills) and in 37% of the middle Apennines, at a scale of 1:50,000. Each individual polygon (delineation) of the soil map is identified by a numerical code and is described for the soils that constitute it. A total of 13,353 soil polygons are outlined, of which 2,230 in the plains, 5,188 in the lower Apennines or hills and 5,935 in the middle Apennines The soil polygons have an average area of 467 ha in the plains, 71 ha in the lower Apennines and 31 ha in the middle Apennines. Polygons with similar soil distribution constitute a cartographic unit (there are 820 of them). A total of 466 soil types are described (210 in the plains, 162 in the lower Apennines, 90 in the middle Apennines and 4 in the Upper Apennines), classified according to Soil Taxonomy (2010, 2014) and WRB (1998, 2007, 2014).
